PURPOSE
To lay down the procedure for
Handling of Hazardous and toxic chemicals.

SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for Hazardous and Toxic
chemicals in Quality Control department,

ACCOUNTABILITY
Incharge –Quality Control
V.
PROCEDURE
1.0 Handling
of hazardous and toxic chemicals should be done in the presence of a supervisor.
2.0
Use PPE like acid proof hand gloves,
safety goggles, respirator etc.
3.0 Transfer of hazardous and toxic chemicals or
solutions should be done in the Fuming cupboard
only.
4.0
Take safety precautions while
pouring out or siphoning the chemicals.
5.0
Use suction bulb or vacuum for
pipetting hazardous or toxic solutions.
6.0
Dilution of acid should be done as follows
6.1
Cool the aqueous solution in ice bath and slowly add
acid into the solution with
constant
stirring and never follow the vice versa.
7.0
Keep inflammable liquids and substances away from naked
flame or electric spark.
8.0
Clean spillage immediately.
9.0
Store toxic chemicals in cupboards having a lock and
key and label them to indicate that they are toxic.
10.0
Store hazardous chemicals separately taking all the
safety precautions as per their Material safety data sheet.
