DISPOSAL OF USED MEDIA

I     OBJECTIVE

To describe the procedure for the decontamination and disposal of used media.

    II   SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to the used media in Microbiology Department …..

1.0              Incharge – Quality Control

      V   PROCEDURE

1.0        Collect all the petri dishes, conical flasks and tubes containing the used media and arrange them       in the stainless steel boxes.

2.0        Keep these SS boxes in the autoclave for sterilization.

3.0        Sterilise them at 121ºC for 30 minutes.

4.0        After sterilization cycle, unload the SS boxes and allow them to cool.

5.0        Transfer the media into the polypropylene bag and send it for incineration.

6.0        Enter the details in Format No.:F01/SOPPMB002-00

7.0        PRECAUTIONS

7.1  While transferring the disposal media wear hand gloves and nose mask.
