Acidity in Garcinia cambogia fruit

Method for the estimation of Acidity in Garcinia cambogia fruit

Reagents Required:
0.1M NaOH, Distilled Water

Glass wares and Apparatus Required:
Conical Flask 250mL, Volumetric Flask (250mL), Funnel, beaker (250mL).

Procedure:
Weigh accurately about 2.5gm of sample (cut in small pieces) in a beaker. Add 50mL of distilled water previously neutralized to phenolphthalein indicator. Warm on water bath for one hour. Cool and filter through Whatman no.1 filter paper and transfer the solution in a 250mL volumetric flask.  Make up the volume to 250mL with distilled water previously neutralized to phenolphthalein indicator.  Shake and mix well. Take 50mL of the solution in a conical flask and titrate with 0.1M NaOH solution upto pink colour and note the volume of 0.1M NaOH.

Calculation:

% of acidity (w/w) As Hydroxycitric acid on dried basis is calculated as:

For Hydroxycitric Acid

       Vol. of 0.1M NaOH consumed X 0.006933 X 250 X Normality X 100              100
 = ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X ---------------------
             Wt. of sample taken X 50 X 0.1M                                            (100-% LOD)
